Blood Oranges …………. Laranjas “sangue” ?

images-2.jpegimages-14.jpeg

Well yes! they have a deep red flesh and taste great! the darkest is the Moro variety. They have a pigment called anthocyanin and licopene (the same found in tomatoes!) They are originally from Sicily.

Sim salabin! essas laranjas vão do vermelho claro ao escuro cor vinho como a variedade chamada Moro!

leva muito mais tempo…para coagular / too long…..to clot

Who has hemophilia  takes too much time to clot. This can be solved by infusing clotting factor that is missing as quickly as possible!

3+1

3 teenagers and I  at the mall!! we ate a lot, laughed and saw “I: the legend ” (something like that) with Will Smith.

I   won´t comment the movie…but the boys liked it!           photo-195.jpgphoto-196.jpg

UM COÁGULO dramatizado e outro no sangue!!!

pg-107.jpg rede-de-fibrina-segurando-hemacias.jpg

In Hemophilia A and B, the problem during the clotting process happens….

in this phase: the clot takes too much time card-15.jpg to be made and when it is formed it´s still weak, it doesn´t hold back efficiently the blood from coming out.

card-14.jpg

so, the patient has to infuse a clotting protein that is missing (Factor VII or IX, depending on what hemophilia he has)card-18.jpg

card-16.jpg

Now, yes! the clot is formed and strong enough to heal correctly.

After Carnival , today was my first day at the hospital…I was so glad to see everybody of my team work : Eliane was the first one to hug. She is chief nurse of the ambulatory. She has a great work with little kids – she teaches them since a very small age (5) , to self infuse the Factor VIII- among all the other responsabilities.card-17.jpg

Tomorrow I´ll take 4 teenagers to have our annual lunch and movie session together! it´s gonna be fun….

I asked my son Iggy(8 years old) : what´s hemophilia? o que é hemofilia?

iggy-no-iggy-pop.jpg

(Iggy,8)

translation :

“the blood doesn´t clot as quickly as in a person who does´t have hemophilia”

adolescence: the boys grew up!

photo-194.jpg
photo-169.jpg

Jozine and Edson are now friends. They met in the ambulatory and are part of a project I started in 2006/2007 that consist in gathering with me to chat, exchange informations and experiences in the adolescence phase.
Since I work at the Hospital das Clinicas for 14 years , I met them when they were babies!!

Now we are working some aspects like fantasies that sometimes are not so peacefull. They have some fears about what they imagine, about some images of monsters, spirits in dreams…. let’s remind that when we were adolescence our fantasy world of childhood didn’t disappear…it just had to find a “logical” place in our world to not look crazy or childish!

As I psychotherapist I don’t agree in banishing or adjusting our fantasy world but instead try to learn to use it in a creative way. Our fantasy world is full of energy through the infinite images: the “good” and “so called “bad”ones too>

So I incentive them to communicate with these images of dreams drawing them, talking about them…
We are in the phase of drawing and talking about their productions….

I’ll continue later….

HOW TO GET THE flash cards HEMOACTION ? O baralho HEMOAÇÃO para imprimir

This is the first step:

Take a look at the manual, at the project in itself….

Read it as if it was a little story at bed time…

I have used it in my work, with my kids, with friends, with many people for several years….I really hope it will be useful for you.

INSTRUCTION MANUAL of HEMOACTION – English version

Step 2

Download the cards cartas_eng.pdf

Step 3

IMPORTANT: WHEN YOU WILL PRINT: in the item Page Scaling, put :NONE. In this way you will have the cards in the adequate size to play.

Print them in double (not the last card that can remain without a pair for one of the games…)

or just print the sequence to use it as an educational tool at the hospital or any other place.

Email me when you experienced Hemoaction , I would like very much to hear your suggestions, critics and comments.

Hello world! let´s learn with the HEMOACTION, HEMOAÇÃO or HEMOACIÓN

  • The story of these flash cards called Hemoaction started almost 5 years ago.
  • I used to draw some images (a vein, a knee from the inside, the fibrin net…) for my patients with hemophilia and for their families, to make it easier for them (and for me) to explain difficult topics about hemophilia.
  • I decided to ask a friend Pavão (he is a great artist) to draw the images in a sequence that I thought would facilitate the understanding of hemophilia, blood and related topics.
    • Hemoação was borned! and…it is in 4 languages: Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.
    • Hemoação or Hemoaction is a tool  to learn playing card games. It ´s funny and simple!
  • Anyone can use it!
  • Everybody will learn something new about blood clotting and its disorder such as hemophilia A and B.card-15.jpg,Symbol of the slowness in clotting now solved temporarely by the infusion of factor VIII or IX!
  • When the patients play and see the images, they learn faster and they can remember better difficult terms.
  • Symbols such as a turtle for slowness in clotting, or a sink plug for the platelets´action are easy to remember.card-13.jpgplatelet´s plug
  • The feelings of joy, clarity and self-management in education help people to cope better with hemophilia.
      1. (the monograph 2008! is ready)Psychosocial care for People with Hemophilia / Monografía sobre aspectos Psicosociais para os portadores de Hemofilia

        —————————————————-
The monograph is ready and available at the World Federation of Hemophilia site http://www.wfh.org…! after 2 long years of writing, re-writing, editing, revisioning.. And it is here too in my blog !

I am proud of that work because I believe is the first monography of psicosocial aspects about living with hemophilia written by a psychotherapist that gives some concrete exemples of how she works…without all to much of theories but more practical aspects of the topic.

I hope people will like to read it and get inspired.
