K like Karate : ” Japanese system of unarmed combat in which the hands and  feet are used as weapons”

Karate is not considered a suitable sport for PWH but is not considered a total forbidden one neither!!

In the GO FOR IT it is catalogued as YELLOW or Red : can be practiced with extreme caution

Caution for hemophilia would be :

– to be on prophylaxis program to raise the level of factor in the blood and for this reason transform  a severe hemophilia to moderate or mild.

If there is no prophylaxis available, I would suggest to chose another sport for little ones. Teenagers know their body’s limitations at this point and can make good decisions.

– use a proper joint protection

– do the regular previous warm up exercices and relaxation after them to let the muscles streched .

-go for it, but with medical orientation and with patience gradually.

This is why I always say to the families and kids with hemophilia: LEARN ABOUT your hemophilia. How is your body doing so far? where do you have a persistent bleeding? how is your level of factor (are you moderate, mild hemophilia?) in the blood?
A mild hemophilia will have almost for sure more chances to practice a sport that requires at some point body contact or contact with object (giving a kick , or pulling an obstacle).
Each young man with hemophilia, will have to follow his good sense and experiment to see what and in what degree he will be able to practice for ex. Karate.

Some of the techniques learnt in Karate teach the adept  about self-control,  provide an excellent posture and  can help muscles and joints to be flexible and strong at the same time.

If Karate means to you , kicking others and fighting all the time…forget about it. This is not Karate, nor Kung Fu…

There is a philosophy behind any martial art. Learn about it.
